Suspense Ends Over CG’s Next Chief Secretary, IAS Vikas Sheel Gupta To Be 12th CS Of Chhattisgarh.

The developments changed so fast for the new Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh that people are surprised. A letter was sent to the Government of India on September 12 to call IAS Vikas Sheel posted in Manila and on September 13, he was relieved.

Vikas Sheel, a 94-batch IAS officer, has now been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh. He has been relieved from Asian Development Bank Manila, he also had a farewell. NITI Aayog has replaced his IAS wife Nidhi Chhibber. She will be released from NITI Aayog. All this happened in such a hurry that even the state people sitting in the bureaucracy of Chhattisgarh could not understand.

A Official letter was sent to him from DoPT and he was relieved immediately from Manila. It turns out, Vikas Sheel is returning to India by today evening and In a day or two an order will be issued from DoPT for return to parent state Chhattisgarh.

There is also a possibility that an order will be also issued to appoint him the New Chief Secretary by this week.

12th Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh

Mr Vikas Sheel Gupta, a resident of Dehradun, got the Madhya Pradesh cadre after joining the IAS. But in November 2000, he got Chhattisgarh cadre in the partition of the state. He was the Collector of Korea, Bilaspur and Raipur. He posted secretary School Education, Food & Civil Supplies, General Administration And Health Departments.

Mr Vikas Sheel’s Wife Nidhi Chhibber is a Also from 94-batch IAS officer. Both are ACS level officers. In 2016, both moved to Delhi on Central Deputation. Vikas Sheel got the posting of Executive Director in ADB last year for three years. He had just been there for a year and a half. By then, the Government of India had called back to make Chhattisgarh’s Chief Secretary.

Mr Vikas Sheel is a 1994 batch IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre. His full name is Vikas Gupta. They are native to Uttar Pradesh. He has also done his post-graduation in Electrical Engineering (ME) after completing BE from Electrical Engineering. Vikas Gupta’s wife is also an IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre. Vikas, who has held several important positions in Chhattisgarh, has been on central deputation since 2018. He has held the post of Executive Director at ADB since January 2024.

Birth and Education:

Vikas Gupta is an IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre. They are originally from Uttar Pradesh. Vikas Gupta was born on 10 June 1969. He did BE from Electrical Engineering and then ME from Electrical Engineering. Vikasheel Gupta joined the IAS service on September 4, 1994.

Vikas Sheel Gupta is married to Nidhi Chhibber, Mrs Nidhi hails from Haryana. He is a 1994 batch IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre. Both husband and wife are batchmates. Presently she was an Advisor in NITI Aayog on Central Deputation. Since May 2025, he has been made Director General of Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO) at NITI Aayog.

Vikas Gupta was an IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. After the formation of a separate state of Chhattisgarh, he chose Chhattisgarh cadre. He has been the Collector of Bilaspur district, SDM during training in Janjgir district, which has been separated from Bilaspur district. Apart from this, he has also been the Collector of the capital Raipur from April 2007 to April 2008. He has been a secretary in several departments. Since 2018 he has been in the Government of India on Central Deputation. He was Additional Secretary in the Department of Health. Additional Secretary and Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti. Currently he holds the position of Advisor to Executive Director of ADB, Manila, Philippines in January 24.

Vikas Sheel Gupta has done the course of Master and Executive Master of Public Administration and Certificate of Advanced Study Health Service Management and Policy from Syracuse University USA.
