Newborn found dead in garbage heap in Chhindwara:Dogs mutilate body; police suspect animals dug up buried body

The mutilated body of a newborn was discovered in a garbage heap in Chhindwara. Dogs had badly gnawed the head and one hand. Police are investigating the case. Discovery of the body The newborn was found in the Varman Ki Zameen area on Saturday evening. Local residents alerted the Kotwali police. The police sent the body to the district hospital for a post-mortem. Kotwali TI Ashish Dhurve said the preliminary investigation suggests that someone had buried the newborn. Later, dogs dug it out. Condition of the body The body was badly mutilated. Dogs had gnawed off the head and one hand. Eyewitnesses said the body was several days old and had decomposed. People noticed dogs dragging the body while barking, which led to the discovery. Police investigation underway TI Ashish Dhurve said the newborn was fully developed. However, decomposition had severely affected the body. Police have registered a case of unnatural death. They are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the cause and time of death. ​
