The Eintkhedi police of rural Bhopal on Wednesday arrested the driver of an SUV, who allegedly ran over three people on a road in the Arwaliya area of Eintkhedi a few days ago, the police said on Thursday. After the incident, the accused had fled to Gwalior, where he was tracked down and arrested by the police. He was produced before the court on Wednesday and has been sent to jail. The police have also initiated questioning of the accused’s friend, who had lent him the vehicle. Accused identified as Nishant Parihar Eintkhedi police Station House Officer (SHO) Ashish Sapre said that the accused has been identified as Nishant Parihar (23), a resident of Arwaliya locality in Eintkhedi. He works at an electric shop and also deals in auto sales. 2 killed, 1 grievously injured after Nishant ran over them During interrogation, the accused revealed that on Monday night, he had gone out for a drive on the Indore Highway with his friends. While returning, he was checking the SUV’s speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car first collided with a motorcycle and then dragged it up to several metres, hitting people standing on the roadside in Arwaliya. The crash led to the deaths of two men named Gani Khan and Mukhtar Khan, while another person, identified as Sher Singh Thakur, sustained grievous injuries. Doctors have, however, said that his condition is now stable and out of danger. Nishant borrowed vehicle from friend, police probe on Preliminary investigations carried out by the police have revealed that Nishant had borrowed the SUV from his friend Deepak Sahu. Police officials are currently questioning Sahu to determine his involvement and whether he was aware of Nishant’s reckless behaviour. After the accident, Nishant escaped to Gwalior in an attempt to evade arrest. However, police teams managed to trace and apprehend him after a coordinated operation. The accused was subsequently presented before a local court and was remanded to judicial custody. SHO Sapre confirmed that the police are continuing their probe to determine the circumstances under which the vehicle was handed over and whether any negligence was involved.
