The 33rd meeting of the Chhattisgarh Irrigation Project Board, and the first during the current government’s tenure, was held today at Mahanadi Bhawan under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. The meeting focused on increasing irrigation capacity, improving groundwater levels, and strengthening drinking water supply in urban areas. Fourteen new projects across different regions received in-principle approval. The Chief Minister said that increasing farmers’ income and boosting agricultural production are the government’s top priorities. To achieve this, the irrigation network is being expanded continuously. He noted that increasing the irrigated area will benefit farmers, improve groundwater levels, and ensure better drinking water supply. Irrigation expansion in Sarguja, Bastar, and the plains was discussed in detail. The Chief Minister reviewed all project plans, costs, and benefits, and stated that their implementation will be expedited to ensure balanced development across the state. These projects are expected to increase the state’s irrigation capacity by about 1 lakh hectares. The projects approved include Deurgawn Barrage-cum-Lift Irrigation Project and Matnar Barrage-cum-Lift Irrigation Project in Bastar district; Mohmela Sirpur Barrage Scheme on the Mahanadi in Arang block of Raipur district; Ahiran to Gajarinala Water Conservation Construction (Kharang Ahiran Link Project); Chaparatola Feeder Reservoir Project in Bilaspur district’s Kota block; Kumhari Reservoir Capacity Enhancement Project including pipeline laying from Samoda Barrage to Kumhari Reservoir; Sehgaon Lift Irrigation Scheme in Dhamdha block of Durg district; Lamti Feeder Reservoir and canal construction in Khairagarh–Chhuikhadan–Gandai district; Water Supply Scheme from Choki Anicut to Mohara Anicut in Rajnandgaon district; Bagia Barrage-cum-Pressurized Lift Irrigation Project on Maini River in Jashpur district; Parsahi Pressurized Lift Irrigation Project under the Hasdeo Bango Project in Janjgir–Champa district; Madwarani Barrage-cum-Lift Irrigation Scheme in Korba district; pipeline link canal project from Sikasar Reservoir to Kodar Reservoir under the Pairi Project in Gariaband district; and construction of a lift irrigation feeder under Paraghat Diversion Scheme for the left bank canal augmentation of the Kharang Reservoir Project in Bilaspur district.
