A historic moment was witnessed today in village Kathia of Bemetara district, where under the Chhattisgarh Bamboo Pilgrimage Concept Conference, India’s largest and 140-feet-tall bamboo tower was dedicated during the grand event of the “Chhattisgarh Bamboo Pilgrimage Concept Ceremony.” The event became a matter of pride not only for Bemetara but for the entire state of Chhattisgarh. The grand ceremony was graced by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, and Cabinet Minister Dayal Das Baghel.

Chief Minister hoisted the flag, conveyed message of development and environmental conservation

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai hoisted the national flag atop the 140-feet bamboo tower and said that this structure is not just a bamboo creation but a symbol of Chhattisgarh’s tradition, skill, innovation, and wide possibilities. He planted a bamboo sapling, appealing for environmental conservation and the promotion of bamboo-based agriculture. The Chief Minister inspected bamboo product manufacturing units, factories, and processing centers at the venue and interacted with villagers and artisans to learn about their livelihoods.

The Chief Minister said that Chhattisgarh is creating new dimensions in development, innovation, and progress. By constructing the world’s tallest bamboo tower, the state has established a distinct identity at the national level. He said that bamboo-based industries, rural economy, handicrafts, agro-industry, and modern construction techniques are creating immense opportunities. The government is implementing large-scale employment generation schemes for farmers, artisans, and youth.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, addressing farmers, said that in the changing climate and water scarcity situation, bamboo cultivation is emerging as a better option for farmers. He explained that bamboo grows quickly with less water, prevents soil erosion, and increases greenery. Its demand in the market is continuously rising. He said that Bemetara district has struggled with water shortages in recent years. In such a situation, by adopting bamboo along with traditional crops, farmers can double their income. Bamboo-based industries are creating wide employment opportunities for youth.

Cabinet Minister Dayal Das Baghel said that bamboo cultivation and related industries can prove beneficial for the rural economy. He pointed out that water scarcity is a major challenge in Bemetara district, and adopting bamboo as an alternative to paddy farming will be advantageous for farmers. This crop conserves water and generates large-scale local employment. He urged farmers to move toward bamboo cultivation, as it will increase their income.

The program was attended by Bemetara MLA Dipesh Sahu, Collector Ranbir Sharma, SSP Ramkrishna Sahu, President of Rajakkar Vikas Board Prahlad Rajak, District President Ajay Sahu, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Pasha Patel, former MLA Avadhesh Chandel, Rajendra Sharma, along with a large number of farmers, sarpanches, public representatives, and villagers.
