Madhya Pradesh High Court- Gwalior bench has expressed sharp displeasure over the functioning of the Postal Department, stating that withholding legal notices for weeks and failing to provide online tracking information amounts to a serious irregularity. The court said such lapses cause unnecessary delays in judicial proceedings and reprimanded the department for its negligence. Notice withheld for weeks; court shocked by lapse The case relates to a review petition filed by the State Government against Uttam Singh. During the hearing, it was revealed that although a notice dated 4 November 2025 was handed over to the post office, it was not dispatched for several days. Calling the situation “truly shocking,” the court took a stern view of the lapse. Tracking unavailable even after several days The government informed the court that the service report for an earlier notice sent on 14 October 2025 had not been returned. A fresh notice was therefore issued on 4 November. When the court sought the status of online tracking, Assistant Grade employee Suraj Baghel stated that even by 14 November, the consignment number was still not available on the website. Meanwhile, Deputy Postmaster Arjun Bansal admitted before the court that the notice had in fact never been sent. This revelation prompted strong criticism from the bench. Court worried over rise in “Consignment Not Found” cases The High Court said that recently, in several cases, even after consignment numbers are generated, the website displays “Consignment Not Found.” The court termed this a serious system failure, observing that such issues directly obstruct judicial processes.
