The award recognizes his pioneering efforts in integrating mental wellness and stress management within the police force. The award was announced and conferred at a ceremony held at Kanha Shantivanam in Hyderabad. The ceremony was graced by the Vice President of India, who served as the chief guest. The DGP Kailash Makwana was Feted with ‘Heartfulness Change Maker Award’ for his “visionary efforts” in strengthening mental health and “human-centered policing”. This includes a historic initiative where over 50,000 police personnel participated in a simultaneous meditation session across 2,800 centers in Madhya Pradesh on World Meditation Day. The initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Madhya Pradesh Police and the Heartfulness Institute in February 2025 to promote weekly meditation programs in police stations. Kailash Makwana is a 1988-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. Before his appointment as DGP, he served in several high-profile roles, including Chairman of the MP Police Housing Corporation and Director General of Vigilance (Lokayukta). He is an alumnus of MANIT Bhopal and IIT Delhi, and he is also known for his passion for singing, which he uses as a creative outlet to balance the pressures of his professional life.
