With a career spanning nearly three and a half decades, Anurag Jain has carved a niche as one of India’s most accomplished civil servants. An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, where he pursued B.Tech (Honours) in Electrical Engineering, Jain later enriched his academic grounding with a Master’s in Public Administration from the Maxwell School in the United States.

From his early days as Assistant Collector in Sagar in 1990 to serving as Collector in districts like Mandla, Mandsaur and Bhopal, Jain’s administrative journey reflects depth, diversity and dedication. His tenure across regions—including areas now part of Chhattisgarh—equipped him with grassroots insights and governance experience across varied socio-economic landscapes.

Strong Central Connect and Policy Impact

A defining chapter of Jain’s career has been his long and impactful tenure at the Centre, particularly in the Prime Minister’s Office. His close association with the PMO enabled him to contribute significantly to flagship national initiatives, including the transformative Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and the ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana.

His role in implementing large-scale infrastructure and financial inclusion programmes earned him recognition as a policy strategist with strong execution capabilities. Notably, he was conferred the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2023 for his contribution to the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan—an initiative redefining infrastructure planning in India.
