US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday expressed disappointment over the question of racial remarks and discrimination against Indians in the United States. He said that such statements do not represent the entire American society. In a joint press conference with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi, Rubio was asked about incidents of racism against Indians in the US. To this, he said, “Every country has some foolish people who make objectionable remarks online or in public, but this does not define the true identity of a country.” Meanwhile, Rubio also met with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval today. According to a post on X by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, the discussions between both countries focused on defence, security, and strategic technology-related cooperation, including the TRUST initiative. Rubio praised people from the Indian community Rubio said that America is still one of the most welcoming countries in the world. He said, “Our country has been strengthened by people coming from all over the world. They came to America, joined American society, and contributed to the country’s progress.” He specifically praised the Indian community, saying that people of Indian origin have made significant contributions to the American economy and society. Indian-Americans are playing a major role in many important sectors, including business, technology, medicine, and public services. He said, “Indians have contributed over $20 billion to the American economy. We want this figure to grow further.” Rubio also said that the relationship between India and America is not limited to cooperation, but is a strategic partnership. According to him, both countries have the potential to work together in different regions of the world. During the press conference, when Rubio was asked a question, Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar smiled slightly. However, the Indian delegation made no separate comment on this issue. Rubio said – India and America are the world’s two largest democracies This press conference took place after delegation-level talks between the two countries. Issues such as defense cooperation, trade, strategic technology, energy, and regional security were discussed in the talks. Earlier, Marco Rubio described India-US relations as one of Washington’s most important strategic partnerships. He said that America and India are the world’s two largest democracies. The relationship between the two countries holds not just regional but global significance. Meanwhile, S. Jaishankar described the India-US relationship as a comprehensive global strategic partnership. He said that the interests of both countries align in many areas and on many issues. Rubio is currently on a multi-day visit to India. During this, he will also participate in the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Quad countries. This group includes India, America, Japan, and Australia.
