Police in North 24 Parganas’ Swarupnagar are reportedly collecting Bangladeshi identity documents from suspected illegal immigrants as part of the state government’s newly launched “detect, delete and deport” policy. Police begin migrant document verification process According to sources, Swarupnagar Police are carrying out preliminary verification of documents before handing them over to Border Security Force (BSF) officials. The individuals are then being shifted to designated holding centres, where their personal details and documents are uploaded to the Foreigners Identification Portal (FIP) for official verification. After the documentation and verification process is completed, the individuals are reportedly being pushed back to Bangladesh through identified border points. Bengal launches detect, delete, deport policy Sources further claimed that BSF authorities have tightened scrutiny at the Hakimpur border area and are no longer allowing immediate cross-border movement without detailed verification. Officials are reportedly checking which district in Bangladesh the individuals belong to and tracing the border routes through which they allegedly entered India. Officials upload details onto FIP portal Those who can recall the exact border routes used for entry are reportedly being taken to the corresponding border points before being deported across the international border. The developments come days after the West Bengal government issued a notification on May 23 detailing procedures for the identification, detention, and deportation of suspected Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants. Government issues fresh deportation procedure guidelines Under the new guidelines, holding centres are being set up across districts to house suspected illegal immigrants and released foreign prisoners awaiting deportation. Two such holding centres have already been established in the Malda and Murshidabad districts, both of which border Bangladesh. Officials said nine people identified as Bangladeshi nationals, including three women and six minors, have already been shifted to the Malda holding centre as part of the ongoing process.
