The family of a NEET aspirant who died by suicide in Rajasthan’s Sikar district met Rahul Gandhi in Delhi. During the nearly 30-minute meeting, a history-sheeter from Sikar Kotwali police station was also present with the family. The man has previously been linked to gangster Rohit Godara’s gang. A total of 14 criminal cases, including murder, assault, and obstruction of government work, have reportedly been registered against him. National Students’ Union of India National President Vinod Jakhar said he had no information about the matter. ‘Pradeep’s sister is my sister too’: Rahul Gandhi Pradeep Mahich, a resident of the Gudhagorji area in Jhunjhunu district, died by suicide after the NEET examination was cancelled. A few days earlier, NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar had visited the family and arranged a phone call with Rahul Gandhi. Late on Tuesday night, Pradeep’s father Rajesh Mahich reportedly received a call informing him that Rahul Gandhi had invited the family to Delhi for a meeting. Following this, Pradeep’s father Rajesh, sister Babita, cousin Vijendra Mahich, Shravan Kantiwal, and history-sheeter Rajesh Zoya travelled to Delhi. During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi placed his hand on Babita’s head and said, “She is my sister too. Pradeep’s family will definitely get justice. Even if we are not in power, we will ensure justice.” Presence of history-sheeter sparks discussion The presence of Rajesh Zoya, a history-sheeter from Sikar Kotwali police station, during the meeting has sparked discussion. Rajesh Zoya reportedly has 14 criminal cases registered against him between 2004 and 2024. These include cases related to murder, assault, and obstruction of government work. His name has also allegedly been linked to the Rohit Godara gang. Jakhar says family introduced him as relative Vinod Jakhar said the family had introduced the people accompanying them as relatives. He added that the organisation’s only aim was to secure justice for the victim’s family and support those who had suffered injustice. Pradeep died by suicide in Sikar on May 15 after the NEET examination was cancelled. No suicide note was recovered. According to the family, it was Pradeep’s third attempt at the exam and he was expecting to score more than 650 marks this time. The family claimed that he was deeply distressed by the cancellation of the examination. Following his death, the family staged a protest outside SK Hospital in Sikar for more than 26 hours.
