Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Monday accused the BJP government in West Bengal of using intimidation and administrative pressure to weaken the opposition. Raises questions over public protests Referring to a recent rape case in Behala, Banerjee questioned why there had not been widespread public protests over the incident. She suggested that selective outrage was being used for political purposes. Hawker evictions draw sharp criticism Speaking during a Facebook Live session, Banerjee alleged that ongoing eviction drives against hawkers and small traders were destroying livelihoods. She described the operations as “bulldozer politics” and claimed ordinary people were being targeted in the name of governance. TMC cites past political restraint Recalling the party’s time in power, Banerjee said the TMC had shown restraint even when police personnel were allegedly attacked during opposition programmes. She claimed that despite several incidents, no retaliatory action was taken and democratic norms were respected. Opposition leaders face pressure allegations The TMC chief further alleged that opposition MLAs and party workers were being intimidated through threats and police action. According to her, several elected representatives had complained of being warned about possible criminal cases, including arms and narcotics-related charges. Election rigging claims resurface again Banerjee also accused the BJP government of manipulating the Assembly election process. She alleged large-scale irregularities and claimed that the TMC possesses evidence to support its charges of electoral malpractice. Abhishek attack raises fresh questions Referring to the recent attack on Abhishek Banerjee, Banerjee alleged that the incident was pre-planned. She questioned the government’s response and claimed the consequences could have been far more serious had he not been wearing a helmet. TMC vows stronger political comeback Despite political pressure and defections, Banerjee asserted that the Trinamool Congress would emerge stronger. She called on students and young people to protest against injustice and said attempts to silence the opposition would ultimately fail. Banerjee questions loyalty of former leaders Mamata Banerjee said she knows the political character of those who are now switching sides. She claimed that some leaders may believe removing Abhishek Banerjee would weaken the party, but asserted that she understands their intentions and motivations. TMC defends past democratic conduct The TMC chief said her party had shown democratic restraint even when its leaders and workers faced attacks and accusations. She alleged that despite being called anti-national and facing provocations, the party chose not to retaliate through administrative action. Party not dependent on individuals Banerjee maintained that the Trinamool Congress does not belong to a handful of leaders but to its grassroots workers. She said the party’s strength lies in its cadre base and not in individual politicians. ​
