The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday expelled two of its MLAs, Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay, citing anti-party activities, amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged Assembly signature forgery case. Forgery allegations spark political controversy Sandipan Saha, the MLA from Entally, and Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay, the MLA from Uluberia Purba, were removed from the party shortly after West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari referred to their names during a press conference at Nabanna. Chief Minister cites MLAs complaints Addressing reporters, the Chief Minister said that the investigation into the alleged forgery case was initiated following complaints submitted by the two legislators themselves. According to him, both MLAs had written to Assembly Speaker Rathindranath Basu, alleging that their signatures had been forged on official documents. Speaker orders inquiry into case Acting on the complaints, the Speaker ordered an inquiry into the matter, leading to a wider investigation into the alleged forgery. Sources said the Trinamool Congress has already informed the Speaker about its decision to expel the two legislators. The party has also reportedly communicated the decision to both MLAs through email and WhatsApp. Investigation continues into signature forgery The development comes as the signature forgery controversy continues to generate political attention in West Bengal, with the investigation currently underway to determine how the alleged forgery took place and who was responsible.
