Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested five more accused linked to a terror module connected to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. Earlier on Tuesday, seven other members of the module were arrested. With the latest action, the total number of arrests in the case has reached 12, while one suspect remains absconding. According to Delhi Police, the network was linked to Pakistan-based ISI handler Shahzad Bhatti. The investigation revealed that the arrested accused had been assigned the task of targeting police personnel in Delhi and neighbouring states. They were also allegedly instructed to put up posters promoting Pakistani handlers and create graffiti across the Delhi-NCR region to publicise the ISI-backed terror outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH). Weapons, ammunition seized from accused The suspects had allegedly been assigned the task of carrying out targeted killings of police personnel in several states. Investigators recovered multiple videos showing reconnaissance of police forces, which were reportedly sent to Pakistan. During the operation, the Special Cell also seized weapons, ammunition and other incriminating material from the accused. The recovered items are being examined to determine how they were intended to be used. Police said the interrogation of the arrested accused is ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify other members of the module and uncover the wider network. Investigators are also probing the sources of funding, instructions and logistical support provided to the accused, as well as their links with foreign handlers. Terrorists recruiting youth through social media Special Cell Deputy Commissioner Nara Chaitanya said police had been monitoring sleeper cells and terror networks operating in the country for a long time. Intelligence gathered during various operations indicated that an organised terror ecosystem was rapidly expanding. The network was allegedly being run by Pakistan-based handlers Shahzad Bhatti and Ajmal Gujjar. The investigation revealed that both operatives were recruiting young people through social media platforms at the behest of Pakistan’s ISI. The recruits were allegedly being groomed for terror activities and attack plots in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Acting on intelligence inputs, police arrested Mohit alias Yogi, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, from Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar area. According to investigators, he had been recruited by Ajmal Gujjar. Police recovered a pistol, four cartridges and a mobile phone from his possession. The probe later expanded, leading to the arrest of other alleged members of the module — Anas alias Anas Tyagi, Deepak Agraula, Arif alias Pradhan, Karanveer Singh, Jatan and Sabir. Another accused linked to the module, Aamir, remains absconding and is being traced.
