The UGC-NET examinations for English, Commerce and Sociology have been cancelled. The National Testing Agency (NTA) admitted on Sunday that the question papers for these subjects contained spelling and printing errors. The NTA said some questions had been repeated from previous exams. Students had pointed out the discrepancies after the answer key was released. The issues could not be fixed simply by removing the problematic questions. The NTA has announced fresh exam dates for all three subjects. The English, Commerce and Sociology exams will be held on September 9 and 10. The UGC-NET exam was conducted from June 22 to 30. No fresh fee will be charged for the re-exam The NTA said the English exam will be held on September 9 from 9 am to 12 noon. The Commerce paper will be conducted on the same day from 3 pm to 6 pm. The Sociology exam will be held on September 10 from 9 am to 12 noon. Students will not be charged any additional fee for the re-examination. Committee formed after complaints The NTA said a committee was formed after receiving several complaints. The committee found several factual, typing and translation errors in the question papers. These included incorrect names, distorted book titles, improperly worded questions, and errors in grammar and punctuation. The committee also found that a large number of questions had been repeated from previous exams. The NTA had released the provisional answer keys for 84 of the 87 UGC-NET subjects on Sunday morning. The answer keys for these three subjects were not released. Answer key was released today The decision came just hours after NTA released the provisional answer keys for 84 of the 87 UGC-NET subjects. Even around seven weeks after the June exam, the answer keys for these three subjects had not been released. NTA said a committee was formed after it received several complaints about the question papers. NTA has faced repeated controversies The NTA has been at the centre of several controversies in recent years. The NEET-UG exam held on May 3 this year was also hit by paper leak allegations, following which the agency conducted a re-examination on June 21. The NEET 2024 exam was also affected by a paper leak controversy.
