Chief Minister of Bengal Suvendu Adhikari launched a blistering attack on the Trinamool Congress during his speech in the Assembly on Tuesday, accusing the party of corruption, political vendetta, and administrative failure. Years of political confrontation revisited Referring to his tenure in the opposition, Adhikari said he had been suspended from the Assembly multiple times, faced over 100 cases and had to approach the courts on 108 occasions. He alleged that he was prevented from participating in Ram Navami processions and from visiting violence-hit areas such as Murshidabad. Corruption blamed for party’s decline Claiming that the political situation in Bengal had come full circle, Adhikari said, “The world is round. The people have given their verdict.” He added that the BJP government would continue to follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and that “everyone will be held accountable.” The BJP leader alleged large-scale corruption under the previous TMC regime and said no one involved in wrongdoing would be spared. Referring to recent investigations, he claimed that gold had been recovered from the residence of an associate of a former Bidhannagar civic chief. Border security plans announced strongly Adhikari also announced that the government would bring a law for the attachment of illegally acquired properties, which could later be used for housing the homeless. On illegal immigration, he said the state had decided to identify and hand over illegal Bangladeshi nationals to the BSF. He also announced plans to strengthen fencing along the border. Property confiscation bill on agenda The LoP further stated that political leaders would not be part of government recruitment committees. He blamed corruption within the Trinamool Congress for the party’s present crisis, saying, “No political party in India has witnessed such a collapse.” During the proceedings, Rittabrata Banerjee and Golam Rabbani staged a protest in the Well of the House. TMC protests amid heated exchanges Meanwhile, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said his party supported action being taken by the government but demanded that leaders associated with the newly formed rival Trinamool faction should also face scrutiny.
