A woman BJP supporter in Narendrapur, South 24 Parganas, has alleged that she was brutally assaulted, tied to a light post, and had her head forcibly shaved partially by a group of attackers allegedly linked to local Trinamool Congress leaders. Police have registered a complaint and launched an investigation into the incident. Woman alleges brutal politically motivated assault According to the victim’s family, the alleged attack stems from a long-running land dispute. They claimed that the family had first come under attack on September 3, 2025, following a disagreement over land. Fearing for their safety, they left their home and returned only on September 9 after police intervention. Despite returning, they alleged they continued to receive threats and faced repeated harassment. Land dispute triggered repeated alleged attacks The family alleged that on Friday, a group of men forcibly entered their house, dragged the woman outside, tied her to a light post, and assaulted her in public. They further claimed that the attackers shaved her head in front of bystanders in an attempt to humiliate her. Dragged outside publicly assaulted and humiliated The allegations also include an alleged attempt to murder. According to the family, the attackers allegedly tried to strangle the woman by tightening a noose around her neck and attempted to slit her tongue with a blade. They claimed local residents intervened, preventing the situation from becoming more serious. The woman was later taken to a hospital for treatment. The victim’s family alleged that those involved in the attack are supporters of former Trinamool Congress MLA Firdousi Begum and her husband. They claimed the assault was carried out under their patronage. However, Firdousi Begum has not responded to the allegations. Attempts to obtain her version were unsuccessful at the time of publication. Family alleges attempted murder during attack A written complaint has been lodged at Narendrapur Police Station, and police have initiated an investigation. Officials have not yet confirmed whether any arrests have been made but said all aspects of the allegations are being examined. Political links alleged police begin investigation The incident has triggered a political confrontation, with the BJP alleging that the woman was targeted because of her political affiliation. Opposition leaders have claimed that such incidents are creating an atmosphere of fear in the area. No statement has yet been issued by those named in the complaint. The case has also raised concerns over law and order. Some residents alleged that tension had existed in the area for a long time and that earlier complaints did not result in effective action.
