Eight Muslim-majority countries on Sunday strongly condemned statements made by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Both ministers had spoken about plans to remove Palestinians from Gaza. The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Türkiye, Qatar, Egypt, Indonesia and Pakistan said in a joint declaration that such statements and provocative proposals are a clear violation of international law, particularly international humanitarian law. They said these remarks pose a direct threat to the rights of the Palestinian people. The ministers warned that turning calls for forced displacement into official policy or practical measures would have serious consequences. They said this would undermine international efforts to establish peace. Katz says – If US is ready, we will vacate Gaza Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Wednesday, September 2, that if the US approves, we will expel Palestinians from Gaza. He further stated that US President Donald Trump has currently frozen this plan. Israel is awaiting a US decision on where these people will be sent. Trump first proposed relocating Gaza’s approximately 2.3 million population in February 2025. However, Katz acknowledged that no country is currently prepared to take in such a large number of Gazans. Trump backs down on proposal after Egypt protests US President Trump had said at the beginning of his second term that about 20 lakh Palestinians of Gaza should leave from there. Trump had talked about resettling Gaza and turning it into a luxury resort on the Mediterranean. Trump’s proposal was opposed by several countries, including Egypt, which is the only country besides Israel that shares a border with Gaza. Palestinians also opposed the proposal, arguing that forced removal from their land would remind them of 1948, when large numbers of Palestinians were forced to flee their homes during the creation of Israel. Palestinians refer to this event as the “Nakba,” meaning catastrophe. Later in October, while announcing a ceasefire in Gaza, Trump presented a 20-point plan for the region. It did not include the forced removal of Palestinians from Gaza. Claim: 80% of people ready to leave Gaza Israeli hardline leader Itamar Ben Gvir on Thursday unveiled a plan to expel most of Gaza’s Palestinian population from the territory, calling it a voluntary exodus. Katz also claimed that 80% of Gaza residents want to leave, but Hamas is preventing them from doing so. The plan also includes the creation of a separate government ministry. Ben Gweir has said he would pursue this plan if his coalition government remains in power after the election in late October. Netanyahu says – Israeli army will not retreat Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Israeli army would not withdraw. He said, “We are controlling this area. We are not retreating. We will remain on the Yellow Line.” The Yellow Line separates areas of Gaza controlled by Hamas and the Israeli military. He further said that we control 60% of the Gaza Strip and we are not going to stop, because we are eliminating the terrorists who threaten us every day. Hamas attacks and death toll in Gaza A large population of Gaza has already been displaced within its own territory due to Israeli strikes following the Hamas offensive, which killed 1,221 people, according to Israeli figures. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 73,470 people have died in subsequent Israeli attacks, with more than 1,330 killed even after the ceasefire.
