The decomposed body of a 28-year-old woman was found while a vacant plot was being cleared in Bengaluru’s Sampigehalli area. According to the police, the woman’s husband, Sagar Chandra Rawat, strangled her to death after an argument on 11 August. He kept the body in the house for three days before wrapping it in a bedsheet and dumping it, along with the bed, in a nearby plot. The Bengaluru civic body was carrying out a drive to clear vacant plots on 2 September. During the drive, sanitation workers found the body of Ansuya Behera. However, information about the case reached the media today. According to information, the body had decomposed. Stray dogs had eaten parts of it. As the condition of the body was poor, the woman was identified through the tags on her clothes. The police have arrested her husband. How the clothing tag led to her identification The police traced the clothing purchase through the tag. The purchase had been made at a mall. Based on the information obtained from there, the police identified the woman as Ansuiya Behera. The accused worked at a hotel Anasuya and Rawat married after being in a relationship. They had moved to Bengaluru only a few months earlier. Rawat worked at a hotel. Anasuya worked at a clothing shop. According to the police, the two often argued over money. During the investigation, the police discovered that Rawat had continued going to work at the hotel every day as usual even after killing his wife. While questioning people at the hotel, the police learned about the couple’s frequent disputes. Claim of confession during questioning The police took Rawat into custody and brought him to the police station for questioning. The police said that he confessed to the killing during questioning. Sampigehalli police arrested the accused within a week of the woman’s body being found. He was sent to judicial custody. Cleaning of the vacant plot had begun following instructions issued by the civic body. It was during this process that workers found the woman’s body.
