College girl dies at homestay in Guwahati:Victim was there for vacation with boyfriend; told her mother about feeling threatened

Twenty-two-year-old Guwahati University sociology student Nimisha Thakuria died at a homestay. Police have arrested her 26-year-old boyfriend, Asif Ali, who was staying with her. Asif, however, claims that Nimisha died by suicide. But the police’s preliminary investigation suggests that this is a case of murder. According to information from Nimisha’s family, she called them at midnight. She could only say, “They will kill me.” Her phone was switched off after that. This has raised suspicion that it may have been snatched from her. However, this claim is yet to be investigated. He said that during the night, he heard a man shouting, saying, “Dada, get up, get up.” Bailung said, “When we went towards the source of the sound, a boy was holding the girl’s body in the room, while the girl was lying on the floor.” According to the staff, the two had stayed at the homestay before and had booked Room 10 that night. Nimisha was a sociology student and a resident of Dharapur. The homestay owner told police that Nimisha and Asif often came to stay at the homestay. According to Guwahati Police DCP (West) Bolin Deuri, Asif claims that Nimisha hanged herself from the ceiling fan and that he brought her down. However, the police have not treated his claim as the final conclusion. The DCP said the police would get to the bottom of the case.
