‘Vote Thief’ Remark Row: Bengal Chief Secretary Seeks Rs 10 Crore, Apology From Mahua Moitra Chief Secy Vs MP: Manoj Kumar Agarwal Slaps Defamation Notice On Mahua Moitra For ‘Vote Chor’ Post West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agarwal has sent a legal notice to Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for calling him a “Vote Chor (Vote Thief)” on social media. In his notice, Agarwal said Moitra made the derogatory remark when he was serving as the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, accusing him of illegally deleting names of lakhs of Bengali voters and claiming that India would chase him. Denying the charge, Agarwal’s counsel said his client discharged his duties as CEO strictly as per law and the instructions of the Election Commission of India, and that Moitra’s posts have damaged his professional integrity and public image. The Chief Secretary has demanded that Moitra delete the two posts within 24 hours, issue a written apology and give an undertaking not to make such defamatory remarks in future. The notice also seeks Rs 10 crore as compensation for defamation and Rs 50,000 towards legal expenses, warning of both civil and criminal action if she fails to comply.
