Farmers will now be paid at the rate of Rs 425 per quintal, and the new rate will be implemented from the 2025-26 crushing season itself. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that the prosperity of Annadata is the foundation of Chhattisgarh. The state government is committed to ensuring farmers get better returns for their hard work, making agriculture profitable and making farming families economically empowered. Keeping farmers’ interests in mind, the CM has decided to procure sugarcane for sugar factories at Rs 425 per quintal. The payment for procurement done in the crushing season 2025-26 will also be made at the enhanced rate. The CM said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central and State Governments are continuously working to increase farmers’ income, reduce agricultural costs and make farming more profitable. The Chhattisgarh government is moving forward by keeping farmers’ interests at the centre of its policies and decisions. *Rs 70 Hike Per Quintal, Bonus of Rs 51.09 Crore* To increase the income of sugarcane farmers and make sugarcane cultivation profitable, the state government has increased the purchase price from Rs 355 per quintal to Rs 425 per quintal – a hike of *Rs 70 per quintal*. The benefit of this increased price will also be applicable to sugarcane of the 2025-26 season. Farmers who have already sold their cane in this season will also be paid as per the enhanced rate. CM Sai informed that a bonus of approximately *Rs 51.09 crore will be distributed to more than 31,000 farmers* associated with the state’s four cooperative sugar mills. *Chhattisgarh Now No. 1, Ahead of Major Producing States* Though Chhattisgarh’s contribution to the country’s total sugarcane production is less, it has now become number one in giving better value to its farmers. With this decision taken under the leadership of CM Vishnu Deo Sai, the procurement rate in Chhattisgarh has become higher than major producing states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. For context, the State Advised Price (SAP) for early variety sugarcane is Rs 400 per quintal in Uttar Pradesh, Rs 415 in Haryana and Rs 416 in Punjab. In Maharashtra and Karnataka, payment is determined on the basis of the Centre’s Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP). The Centre has fixed FRP at Rs 365 per quintal for 2026-27 at 10.25% sugar recovery. *Four Cooperative Mills, 18.6 to 20.4 Lakh Tonnes Production* Chhattisgarh ranks 14th in sugarcane production in the country. Currently, 4 major cooperative sugar factories are operational in the state – Bhoramdeo Cooperative Sugar Mill (Kawardha), Mahamaya Cooperative Sugar Mill (Surajpur), Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Cooperative Sugar Mill (Pandaria, Kabirdham) and Maa Danteshwari Maiyya Cooperative Sugar Mill (Balod). About 18.6 lakh to 20.4 lakh tonnes of sugarcane is produced in the state every year, with Kabirdham, Jagdalpur and Surguja being the highest producing districts.
