Indore’s Shitalamata Bazaar saw protests against Digvijaya Singh on Monday night, as the Hindu Mahasabha burned effigies of him and Rahul Gandhi. The protest came in support of local traders, with Hema Bhaiya Panjwani, president of the Shitala Mata Bazaar Traders Association, backing the effigy burning. Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav criticized Digvijaya Singh, saying he tried to disturb the city’s peaceful atmosphere and spread tension. The Mayor also said a case should be filed against him and objected to former minister Sajjan Singh Verma’s statement. Reason for Congress’s downfall: Muslim appeasement Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, attacking Digvijay Singh, said that the only reason for Digvijaya Singh and Congress’s downfall is Muslim appeasement. If someone has raised a question regarding ‘love jihad’ and society stands with them, then Digvijaya Singh does not need to go there. The Mayor said that he came here only to spoil the atmosphere. I would rather say that a case should be filed against Digvijaya Singh for spoiling the peaceful atmosphere of the city and spreading animosity. Mayor gave this reply on Sajjan Verma’s statement Bhargav also responded to a statement by former minister Sajjan Singh Verma. The Mayor said that the comment Sajjan Verma made, that all MLA sons will be seen running away, is highly objectionable. I want to tell him that this is a team of youngsters, and we have driven away Congress from the entire MP with the strength of these youngsters. Sajjan Verma himself sometimes flees from Indore, sometimes from Dewas. He should decide where he wants to go by fleeing. This is the whole matter… Digvijaya Singh arrived here on Saturday amidst the ongoing dispute in Indore’s Sheetlamata market regarding the employment of Muslims. During this, there was a lot of commotion. Digvijaya Singh went to the police station and demanded action against the responsible people. During a discussion with the media, Digvijaya Singh launched a sharp attack on the state government, saying that supporters of an MLA are talking about not giving jobs to Muslims and shutting down their businesses. Digvijaya Singh asked, “Is this not a legal offense, and if it is, why has the police not filed an FIR yet?” He said that people are protesting and saying that their only fault is that they are Muslims. Threatening people who are honestly doing business and raising their families is completely wrong and cannot be accepted under any circumstances. Eklavya appealed to remove Muslim employees The controversy in this matter escalated further when BJP MLA Malini Gaud’s son Eklavya Gaud appealed to traders to remove Muslim employees from their shops. Gaud had given an ultimatum till September 25.
