Just 48 hours after being welcomed with flowers, dismissed Sub-Inspector Ramveer Singh Kushwaha was arrested by the Guna police. Kushwaha had been absconding for two years in connection with the high-profile Atmaram Pardi murder case. The Special 12 police team meticulously planned and rehearsed the arrest for two days, ensuring no chance for him to escape. Arrest linked to murder, witness intimidation, and fraud Ramveer Singh Kushwaha was arrested on charges of intimidating witnesses and committing fraud related to the murder of Atmaram Pardi. His arrest came shortly after he received anticipatory bail and returned to Guna. Before he could celebrate his bail, police swiftly apprehended him. Following his arrest on Sunday, Kushwaha was first taken to the local police station and then presented under police protection to the CJM court, which sent him on three-day police remand. Background of the case The case dates back to June 9, 2015, when Atmaram Pardi, a resident of Khejra Chakk, went with his mother, sister, and other family members to immerse the ashes of his sister-in-law Mishribaai in the Parvati river. At the time, Atmaram had only one pending theft case for which he had briefly served a few days in jail. While the family performed the ritual, SI Ramveer Singh Kushwaha along with police personnel Dinesh Gurjar and Raghuraj Tomar arrived in a blue private car owned by Kushwaha. Considering Atmaram a suspect in a theft case in Gurugram, they attempted to apprehend him. Atmaram jumped into the river but was caught by the police. He was forcibly taken into a vehicle under the pretext of being taken to a hospital and subsequently went missing. Over the years, Atmaram’s family repeatedly visited police stations but were told he was receiving treatment in Gurugram. In 2016, his paternal aunt Sulochana Pardi met Kushwaha, who allegedly admitted that Atmaram had died from a gunshot. In August 2019, she petitioned the High Court to hand over the case to the CBI, which subsequently assigned the case to the CID. After a seven-year investigation, the police confirmed in 2023 that Atmaram had been killed. Charges and dismissal Based on the investigation, Kushwaha was charged under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence), and 120B (criminal conspiracy). He was dismissed from service and his firearm license was revoked. Despite this, the CID could not locate him for two years. Anticipatory bail and return to Guna In the meantime, Kushwaha applied for anticipatory bail in Guna court. Initially rejected on July 24, he approached the Gwalior High Court, which accepted his plea on September 26. The court criticized the investigating agencies for their delays, noting that nearly eight years had passed since the FIR was registered, yet no charges were filed. Floral welcome turns into arrest After securing bail, Kushwaha returned to Guna, expecting smooth sailing in other cases. Supporters welcomed him with flowers and garlands, and videos of the celebration were shared widely on social media. This alerted the police, as he was still wanted in multiple cases. Police had been monitoring him in Guna for four to five days. A detailed rehearsal was conducted on Saturday, and police officers were briefed at a secret location. All mobile phones were switched off, and only CSP Mishra and a few senior officers knew the exact plan. Disguised in plain clothes, the team moved in motorcycles and private vehicles toward Kushwaha’s residence. Two motorcycles went ahead as a diversion while the main team followed. Once the signal was given, the team raided the house, leaving no room for escape. Supporters present outside were kept at a safe distance. Kushwaha was immediately taken to the police station for the fraud-related case. Five cases registered against Kushwaha Police statement SP Ankit Soni stated that the team had been receiving information about Kushwaha’s presence in Guna for several days. A 12-member police team conducted secret surveillance, and once confirmation was received, they swiftly raided his house and arrested him.
