FASTag will enable payments for parking and petrol:Road Transport Ministry to roll out scheme after successful 6-month trial

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is preparing to make FASTag multipurpose. Under this, payments for everything from parking to petrol will now be possible through FASTag. The trial, ongoing for six months, has been successful for this. Its objective is that the use of FASTag should not be limited only to toll payments, but also for payments of facilities other than roads encountered during travel. Officials said – This will reduce the possibility of digital fraud. Users will be able to use FASTag like a wallet, which will minimize losses in case of fraud. A meeting of fintech companies, payment service providers, banks, and toll operators has already taken place regarding this change. Agreement was reached on these points- Parking fare at New Delhi Railway Station will be deducted via FASTag Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway, informed that a new policy has been prepared under the leadership of Delhi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Pushpendra Kumar Tripathi. This will largely eliminate the problem of traffic jams at the entry and exit gates of the station and overcharging. The new company will take over parking management on December 28. As per the tender conditions, the company will have to mandatorily implement all standards related to passenger facilities, vehicle management, and security within one month. According to Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, three special pathways are being built towards Ajmeri Gate. Through these pathways, passengers will be able to easily reach the security check and scanning point with their luggage. Passengers disembarking from the train will be able to easily exit the station premises and reach their taxi, bus, or metro from the designated lane. ​
