Aditya Dhar’s “Dhurandhar” films were a hit in India, largely because of their realistic portrayal of espionage and the depiction of Lyari, Pakistan. The director’s commitment to detail was praised, even if some elements were added for dramatic effect. However, the films weren’t well-received in Pakistan, where many felt they unfairly demonised the country and its intelligence agency, the ISI. Pakistan launched “Jahannum Ba’raasta Jannat” Now, Pakistan has launched its own spy thriller TV show, “Jahannum Ba’raasta Jannat”, which translates to “Hell Through Heaven,” possibly as a counter-narrative to the “Dhurandhar” series. The show started airing on Green Entertainment Television on March 29th. The plot of “Jahannum Ba’raasta Jannat” centers around the head of India’s spy agency, RAW, allegedly plotting to destabilise Pakistan by spreading terrorism. The RAW chief is played by Javed Sheikh, an actor who has appeared in Indian films, including playing Shah Rukh Khan’s father in “Om Shanti Om.” The show is directed and written by Iqbal Hussain and features Momina Iqbal and Umer Aalam in leading roles. Show got criticised online However, the show has been met with criticism and ridicule online, primarily due to its perceived low production quality and lack of attention to detail. Many viewers have pointed out what they see as unrealistic and poorly executed scenes. Recently, a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared a scene from the show, mocking its premise. The scene depicted the Secretary of RAW and the Director of RAW discussing how the Indian government is supposedly forcing them to destabilise Pakistan through terrorism.
According to the dialogue, the Secretary of RAW believes that India might collapse if Pakistan isn’t destabilised. The X user’s caption highlighted the show as Pakistan’s attempt to respond to “Dhurandhar.”
