AAP claims Maliwal, Gupta’s signatures are forged:Punjab CM Mann to demand ‘Right to Recall’ for seven MPs who went to BJP

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has sought time to meet President Droupadi Murmu regarding seven AAP MPs allegedly leaving the party. According to sources linked to the Punjab CM’s Office, Mann wants to take all Punjab MLAs to Delhi to meet the President. He plans to demand the Right to Recall for the seven MPs who switched sides and present his position on the matter. Additionally, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh will meet the Vice President, where he will demand the cancellation of the memberships of the MPs who left the party. Sanjay Singh and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that only three MPs have joined the BJP, while the remaining four are still with their party. Raghav Chadha had claimed yesterday that their party has 10 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, and two-thirds of them (seven MPs) are with them. Therefore, according to him, the anti-defection law does not apply. Rejecting this claim, Finance Minister Cheema said that only three MPs have gone to the BJP. He also alleged that the signatures of two MPs, Swati Maliwal and Rajinder Gupta, were forged. Yesterday (April 24), ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, seven out of Aam Aadmi Party’s 10 Rajya Sabha MPs left the party. Six of them are from Punjab. After quitting the party, Punjab Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha joined the BJP on Friday evening along with MPs Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak. According to Raghav Chadha, Harbhajan Singh, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Swati Maliwal, and Rajender Gupta are also with them. Meanwhile, on Saturday, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann took a jibe at MPs leaving AAP on social media (X). AAP’s Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia had returned from Gujarat just yesterday, after which he went straight from Delhi airport to meet AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal. After this, on Saturday morning itself, Dr. Balvir Singh, Health Minister in Punjab’s AAP government, met Sisodia in Delhi. Speaking to media here, Minister Dr. Singh said- BJP is running Operation Lotus in Punjab. The MPs have betrayed Punjab. Why didn’t they resign? Both of these have forged signatures. Their signatures were done just to show seven members. All 7 members should have gone together, then they could have escaped the law. They only have 18 months left. Cheema said that Harbhajan Singh was brought forward so that he would show the path to the youth but he turned traitor and ran away. Meanwhile, a news channel claimed citing sources that 3 MPs met AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal before leaving the party. Among them, Ashok Mittal met on April 19, Vikramjit Sahni on April 22, and Sandeep Pathak met Kejriwal on April 23. Mittal even spoke to Kejriwal on April 23. Regarding only 3 MPs appearing at yesterday’s conference, sources are saying that Rajinder Gupta is currently abroad. Swati Maliwal was in Itanagar yesterday and Harbhajan Singh could not come due to IPL contract. MP Sahni did not appear before the media due to health reasons. Today, among those leaving AAP are a world-class cricketer, a Padma Shri awardee, and several social workers. All these people had sacrificed everything and united with the resolve to build a corruption-free India to establish this party. Raghav said – There are still more who will come along. The Constitution of India provides this provision that if more than 2/3 of MPs wish to join another party, they can do so. This right has been given to us by the Constitution of India itself.
