The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the schedule for the Class 12 re-evaluation and marks verification process. Earlier, the portal was scheduled to open on 29 May, but it will now begin from 1 June. According to CBSE, the decision was taken in view of the large number of applications received and certain technical issues being faced on the portal. The board said it is working to improve the system to ensure students do not face difficulties while submitting applications. CBSE stated that students will be able to apply online for marks verification and re-evaluation through the official website from 1 June onwards. This year, CBSE introduced the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for the first time. Following the declaration of results, many students applied for re-evaluation, but several technical glitches were reported on the portal during the process. Claims of website hacking CBSE closes re-evaluation portal after students report technical glitches CBSE had started the online application process for re-evaluation and access to scanned answer sheets on 19 May. However, the website experienced heavy traffic and crashed due to the large number of applications received. The deadline was later extended until 25 May. During the process, students reported several technical problems, including server outages, payment failures and blurred answer sheet pages on the portal. Nearly 1.26 lakh applications for re-evaluation were submitted within the first three hours, following which CBSE stopped updating the data. Amid rising complaints from students, the board temporarily closed the re-evaluation application process on the portal. CBSE stated that millions of students had requested scanned copies of their answer sheets and claimed that most applicants had already received them. This year, around 9.86 million answer sheets were evaluated through the newly introduced on-screen marking system. A total of 1.768 million students appeared for the examination. Education Minister says, ‘I take responsibility for the CBSE matter’ Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has instructed officials to resolve students’ problems in a timely, transparent, and student-friendly manner. Any kind of negligence, whether inside or outside the system, will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken in such cases. Furthermore, regarding the questions raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on CBSE and the central government, Pradhan said – This was the first time CBSE implemented this system on such a large scale. It is acknowledged that some irregularities have come to light. I take responsibility for this. These will be rectified, and a solution will be found. On Thursday, Pradhan held a high-level meeting with officials at the CBSE headquarters in New Delhi. According to the Ministry of Education, the meeting was attended by School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar, CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh, Directors of IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, public sector banks, and CBSE.
