The West Bengal government has directed departments under the Personnel and Administrative Reforms (PAR) Department to ensure the presence of “skeleton staff” on Saturdays, Sundays, and government holidays whenever required to support senior officials performing official duties. Weekend roster introduced for government staff According to a notification issued by the department, senior government officers often work on weekends and public holidays to ensure uninterrupted administration. To assist them, all cells and branches of the department have been instructed to maintain a roster-based system under which a minimum number of employees will remain present on designated holidays. Senior officials require administrative support daily The order has been issued by the Special Secretary of the PAR Department with the approval of the Additional Chief Secretary. Sources at Nabanna indicated that similar roster-based attendance guidelines could gradually be extended to district-level offices, including those of District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Officers, and Block Development Officers. District offices may adopt similar policy Separately, the state Finance Department has announced a full-day public holiday on July 6 to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, and a half-day holiday on July 1 on the occasion of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy’s birth anniversary, in accordance with the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and the relevant notification issued by the Union Home Ministry. ​
