Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C.R. Patil, paid a courtesy call on Chhattisgarh Governor Shri Ramen Deka during the Governor’s visit to Delhi today.

Minister Patil appreciated Chhattisgarh’s exemplary efforts in water conservation, calling the state a national frontrunner. He commended the collaborative public-participation approach under Jan Bhagidari, noting that the state has successfully turned water management into a widespread public movement.

Patil lauded the state for carrying this momentum into the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari 2.0 phase, aimed at further expanding rural water recharge systems. He presented Chhattisgarh’s model as a “Best Practice Model” for the rest of India to emulate.

This recognition reflects the tireless commitment and dynamic stewardship of WRD Secretary, Government of Chhattisgarh, Shri Rajesh Toppo, who has positioned the state as a frontrunner in community-led water conservation. His focus has been on strengthening sustainable water management while fostering a shared sense of responsibility among citizens. Through extensive public engagement, innovative practices, and behavioural change, the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari campaign has gained strong momentum across the state.

Highlighting the scale of work, the Minister noted that Chhattisgarh has built over 2.29 lakh water harvesting and conservation structures — leading the country in scaling up local water assets. He added that these low-cost, community-led structures, such as the “5 percent model” adopted by farmers, have not only improved groundwater levels but also boosted the rural economy, fish farming, and crop security.

The state government reiterated its commitment to making local water governance a long-term benchmark for sustainable development.
