Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Shaukat Molla was taken on foot through Jibantala Bazaar in South 24 Parganas by police on Thursday as part of an investigation linked to a rape case. According to police, the visit was intended for crime scene reconstruction, though the public spectacle drew large crowds. Police reconstruct crime scene with Shaukat As Molla was escorted through the market under heavy police security, several locals played the viral campaign song calling him “Machh Chor” (“fish thief”), which had gained popularity during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election. Some people were also heard shouting slogans and abusing the former legislator. He was earlier arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Bhangar bomb blast that occurred ahead of the Assembly election. Some local BJP workers reportedly distributed sweets while Molla was being escorted through the area. Authorities demolish son’s illegal luxury café Earlier in the day, district authorities demolished a luxury café named Aranyer Kule, owned by Molla’s son Imran Molla, alleging that it had been illegally constructed on encroached government land along the Matla riverbank. Officials said the family had been directed to remove the structure by June 29, but after they failed to comply, the administration carried out the demolition on July 2. ​
