Death toll in Bangladesh floods rises to 51:More than one million affected; over 2,67,000 families stranded

Continuous heavy rain, flash floods caused by water flowing down from the hills, and landslides have worsened the flood situation in southeastern and northeastern Bangladesh. The death toll has risen to 51, while 39 people have been injured. More than one million people have been affected by the disaster. According to the latest situation report released by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Sunday, 1,022,963 people have been affected by the floods. Around 267,918 families remain stranded in floodwaters, while 44,457 people have taken shelter in government-run relief centres. Seven districts severely affected The ministry said the floods have submerged 58 upazilas (sub-districts), 386 unions and 11 municipalities across seven districts: Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Moulvibazar and Habiganj. Authorities have opened 1,131 relief shelters for displaced residents. Cox’s Bazar reports the highest death toll Cox’s Bazar has recorded the highest number of deaths, with 28 people losing their lives. The victims include 15 local residents and 13 members of the Rohingya refugee community. A further 24 people have been injured, while one person remains missing. More than 158,000 people have been affected in the district. Chattogram worst-hit by the floods Chattogram has reported 13 deaths, followed by six in Bandarban, three in Rangamati, and one in Moulvibazar. Other affected districts have also reported flood-related casualties. In terms of the overall impact, Chattogram is the worst-hit district. Nearly 595,000 people across its 16 upazilas have been affected, and around 147,500 families remain stranded. Relief operations continue The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief said rescue and relief operations are continuing across the affected areas. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the floods continue to develop. ​
