Govt Extends Tenure Of Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan Amid Key Security Challenges

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a one-year extension in the service of Shri Govind Mohan, IAS (SK:89) as Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on 05.08.2026, the extension will be effective beyond 22.08.2026 and will continue up to 22.08.2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The decision has been taken in relaxation of the provisions of FR 56(d) and Rule 16(1A) of the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.

The order was signed by Ms. Manisha Saxena, Secretary, ACC & Establishment Officer and has been circulated to the Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to PM, Secretaries to President and Vice President, Secretaries of both Houses of Parliament, all Central Government Secretaries, Chief Secretaries of all States and other senior officials.

Shri Govind Mohan, a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Sikkim cadre, has been serving as Union Home Secretary and overseeing key matters related to internal security, law and order, and administrative reforms.
