From Sanitation To Water: CM Sai Announces Rs 5,591 Crore For Rural Chhattisgarh

Prioritizing the hygiene, health and dignity of girls, the Chhattisgarh Government has taken a major decision. New toilets for girls will be constructed in 6,671 government schools in rural areas of the state.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai made the announcement on Thursday during a press conference at the Mantralaya under ‘Viksit Bharat – Rozgar and Aajeevika Guarantee Mission (Rural) – VB-G Ram Ji’. He also launched the statewide ‘Meri Beti – Mera Abhiman’ campaign.

The CM said that during this special campaign, to be run from 15th August 2026 to 26th January 2027, the construction of girls’ toilets, Mukti Dham and waiting halls will be ensured in every village of the state.
“This campaign is a historic step by the state government towards girls’ respect, rural sanitation, social dignity and strengthening basic infrastructure,” CM Sai said.[crematoriums]

Key Infrastructure Projects Announced

1. Girls’ Toilets: 6,671 girls’ toilets will be built in rural government schools at a cost of Rs 286.85 crore. Cost per toilet: Rs 4.30 lakh.
2. Mukti Dham + Waiting Halls: In 6,524 villages, Mukti Dham with waiting halls will be constructed at a cost of Rs 391.44 crore. Cost per unit: Rs 6 lakh.
3. Additional Mukti Dham: 549 more Mukti Dham will be built at a cost of Rs 18.22 crore. Cost per unit: Rs 3.32 lakh.
4. Water Conservation: To give top priority to water conservation, sand filters and recharge structures will be built in 10,027 defunct borewells at a cost of Rs 52.14 crore. This will help raise groundwater levels, conserve rainwater and reduce drinking water crisis in rural areas.

The CM directed officials to approve and start all these works on priority.

VB-G Ram Ji: Biggest Rural Development & Employment Drive
CM Sai said the VB-G Ram Ji scheme has been implemented across the country from 1st July 2026. Under the scheme, all development works will be selected with Gram Sabha approval and the wage rate has been increased to Rs 300 per day.

“This scheme will be a strong medium to take PM Shri Narendra Modi’s resolve of ‘Viksit Bharat-2047’ to every village,” he said.
For the current financial year, Chhattisgarh will receive around Rs 6,855 crore through MGNREGA and VB-G Ram Ji — the largest ever financial investment for rural employment and development in the state. The first installment of over Rs 1,538 crore has already been received from the Government of India.

Focus On Both Farmers & Workers
To ensure availability of workers during farming season, work under the scheme will remain closed for 60 days in a year, so that both agriculture and employment are not affected.

318 Types Of Works To Transform Villages
The scheme includes 318 types of works under 4 major categories:

• 107 types: Water conservation & water augmentation
• 90 types: Rural infrastructure development
• 86 types: Livelihood promotion
• 35 types: Climate adaptation & disaster management

Rural infrastructure will include roads, culverts, panchayat buildings, anganwadis, extra school rooms, libraries, labs, kitchen sheds, solid & liquid waste management, Mukti Dham and veterinary hospitals.

Chhattisgarh Tops In Implementation Preparedness
CM Sai said Chhattisgarh has performed excellently at the national level in VB-G Ram Ji preparations.
The state ranks 1st in 98% e-KYC of workers and 2nd in 99% geo-tagging of assets. Chhattisgarh also topped in preparing GIS-based Gram Panchayat action plans through the Yuktadhara portal.

Budget & Timeline
The proposed budget for VB-G Ram Ji in 2026-27 is Rs 5,591.42 crore. In the first quarter from April to June 2026 itself, Rs 1,264 crore has already been spent, giving major momentum to rural development.

The CM said the aim is not just employment, but to build self-reliant and developed villages by strengthening water conservation, sanitation, education, social infrastructure and rural livelihoods. Every work will be approved by the Gram Sabha, with digital monitoring, timely wage payment, quality control and social audit to ensure transparency.
