Student allegedly subjected to misbehaviour in Jamui; key accused slapped by lawyer in court: RJD stages protest in Patna, demands ‘full encounter’ The key accused in the Jamui student misbehaviour case, Hare Ram Yadav, was produced before a court on Wednesday evening and subsequently sent to jail. As he was leaving the court after the hearing, advocate Akash Pandey slapped him. People gathered outside the court also questioned the accused, asking, “If it had been your sister, would you have done the same?” Advocate Akash Pandey said he was deeply angry over what had happened to the student. He said Jamui was ashamed of the accused’s actions and that the slap represented public anger against what he had allegedly done. Meanwhile, the RJD staged a protest in Patna. Women workers marched from the RJD office towards Income Tax Square, where they burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister. RJD women’s leader Nazima Jamal said the accused in the Jamui case should face a “full encounter”. She questioned why bulldozers were used against poor people’s homes in Bihar but asked when action would be taken against the accused’s house. RJD leaders have alleged that the government is not serious about the safety of women and girls in the state. The party has demanded strict action against those responsible for the Jamui incident and a speedy trial. He said that talking about caste divisions would not be enough. Those who commit such crimes should be sentenced to death, whoever they are and regardless of their caste. Criminals have no caste; anyone who commits a crime should be punished. This is not a minor incident. The government is facing criticism across the country over the incident. Several major incidents have occurred before this as well. The government should explain what action was taken in those cases. Pappu Yadav to meet the Governor Independent Purnia MP Pappu Yadav will reach Raj Bhavan in the afternoon. He will meet Bihar Governor Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain and raise the Jamui incident and issues related to women’s safety in the state. Pappu Yadav is scheduled to submit a memorandum to the Governor. The memorandum will primarily raise the issues of law and order in the state and crimes against women. He is demanding that the government strengthen law and order and take strict action against those responsible. He will also seek the Governor’s intervention in the matter. Jan Suraaj to stage protest at Kargil Chowk at 5 p.m. The Jan Suraaj Sangharsh Vahini has organised a protest and citizens’ march at 5 p.m. against the incident in Jamui. Jan Suraaj’s student and youth activists have described it as an issue concerning the safety of daughters. The organisation has appealed to ordinary citizens, students and people from various sections of Patna to join the protest. ​
