Jaishankar addresses 81st UNGA meeting, reiterates India’s stance on terrorism:EAM says, ‘Persistent threat to peace has been the scourge of terrorism’

The Union External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, addressed the 81st Session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Saturday. The theme of the meeting is “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all”. In his address, the EAM slammed entities that have been supporting terrorism. He said that “A persistent threat to peace has been the scourge of terrorism. That this could be state-sponsored, and cross-border purpose makes it a direct affront to the global order. Governments indulging in such practices must be held accountable. EAM slams misrepresentation of facts at UNGA The EAM further, without taking names, claimed that facts were misrepresented on the international stage. He mentioned that, ” Yesterday, a serial practitioner of terrorism misrepresented facts before this assembly. Arguments were invoked to normalize terrorism and claim immunity from its consequences. That will not stand. Our right to defend ourselves against terrorism will be exercised. Friendship and goodwill cannot coexist with terrorism, and understandings premised on that will naturally be called into question. In his statement while addressing the UNGA meeting, Sharif said, “India should not block the Indus River waters and that Pakistan would consider any attempt to block the waters an act of war.” Shehbaz Sharif also raised the Kashmir issue at the UN. He said, “Kashmir is like a jugular vein for us. Indeed, the jugular vein is a vital part of the body.
