TVK chief Vijay paid tribute on Sunday to the 41 people who died in the Karur stampede, marking the first anniversary of the tragedy. The stampede occurred on 27 September 2025 during Vijay’s political rally in Tamil Nadu’s Karur district. 41 people died and several others were injured. TVK held memorial programmes at several locations, including Karur Old Bus Stand. Families, supporters and local residents also paid tribute to the victims across Karur district. Vijay said the pain would remain forever Vijay said the Karur stampede left an “unhealable wound” on his life, the people of Karur and Tamil Nadu. He said the tragedy brought endless pain and deep suffering, which he and TVK members continue to share with the victims’ families. Vijay said people who lost loved ones should continue to support and stand by one another. Paying tribute to the victims, he said the departed will always remain alive in their memories. Local events held in Karur Several events were held at various places in Karur district on the first anniversary of the stampede. The families of the deceased, TVK supporters and local residents took part in them. Flowers were offered at local memorial events organised by the TVK. Tributes were also paid to photographs of the deceased. These events were held near several locations, including the Karur Old Bus Stand. People remembered the 41 victims. Permanent memorial announced The TVK had earlier announced that a permanent memorial would be built in Veluchamipuram, Karur. The memorial will be built in memory of the deceased. The party had said that the memorial would also serve as a reminder to people about safety. ​
