CJI Surya Kant Declines LoP Rahul Gandhi’s Request For Meeting Over SIR & CEC Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has declined the request of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for a meeting tomorrow to discuss issues relating to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. As per sources, in his reply to the official email of the Leader of Opposition, the CJI expressed that such a meeting would be inappropriate as the issues sought to be raised are already sub judice before the Supreme Court. It is also understood that the CJI has conveyed that under the constitutional scheme, the Supreme Court cannot interfere with the functioning of the government on its administrative side. However, it was clarified that the leaders are free to approach the Court on its judicial side seeking protection of their fundamental rights.
