Providing major relief to electricity consumers of the state, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai today announced a new electricity scheme during the special session of the Assembly. Under this scheme, domestic consumers whose electricity consumption is up to 200 units will receive the full benefit of half electricity rates (50% concession) for up to 200 units. This decision will directly benefit over 36 lakh domestic consumers in the state. Consumers using between 200 and 400 units of electricity will also receive the 50% concession for up to 200 units for the next one year, benefiting an additional 6 lakh consumers. These consumers have been given a one-year relaxation so that during this period they can install solar plants at their homes under the PM SuryaGhar Muft Bijli Yojana. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the top priority of the state government is to provide affordable, smooth, and reliable power supply to every consumer. Since the process of installing solar plants takes time, the new scheme is being implemented from 1 December, which will significantly reduce the electricity bills of the general public. The Chief Minister further informed that under the PM SuryaGhar Muft Bijli Yojana, the state government is providing additional subsidies — ₹15,000 for a 1 kW solar plant and ₹30,000 for plants of 2 kW or higher capacity. This arrangement will encourage the adoption of solar energy in the state and gradually transition consumers from half electricity to free electricity. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that this decision will not only reduce the electricity bills of the people but also prove to be a strong step towards making the state self-reliant in the energy sector.
