A helicopter returning from Badrinath Dham with devotees from Delhi had to make an emergency landing in Tehri Garhwal on Wednesday morning. The helicopter suddenly developed a technical malfunction which caused it to become unbalanced in the air. As the situation worsened, the female pilot decided to land the helicopter in the fields below, but during landing, the rear part of the helicopter collided with an 11,000-volt power line. After the collision, the rear part of the helicopter was slightly damaged. Despite this, the female pilot showed presence of mind and safely landed the helicopter in a field located in Navgaon in the Satyo-Saklana area. All 7 people on board the helicopter, including the pilot, are safe. All passengers are said to be from the same family, residents of Punjabi Bagh in Delhi. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at around 8:45 AM. As soon as the emergency landing happened, there was chaos in the area. Villagers from nearby areas rushed to the spot. After receiving information, police and administration teams also reached the scene and safely evacuated all passengers. From there it had to proceed further to Dehradun. During this time, due to VIP movement in Guptkashi, the pilot was instructed to go directly to Dehradun. After changing the route, the helicopter reached above the Chamba-Arakot area. During this time, it came to light that there was a technical problem. According to the passengers and pilot, the helicopter started becoming unbalanced in the air and began descending. Collided with electric wire while attempting to land in a field When the situation became critical, female pilot Anupama Chaudhary decided to land the helicopter in the fields visible below. It was reported that while descending, the rear part of the helicopter came into contact with an 11000 volt high-tension electric wire. During this time, an electric wire got entangled in the rear part and rotor of the helicopter. The electric wire remained stuck in the helicopter from the Chamba-Arakot area to the landing site. This damaged the rear part of the helicopter. However, despite the critical situation, the pilot maintained the helicopter’s balance and safely landed it in a field at Navgaon in the Satyo-Saklana area. Villagers gathered at the spot after emergency landing As soon as the helicopter made the emergency landing, people from nearby villages started reaching towards the fields. A crowd of villagers gathered at the spot. Local people also helped in evacuating the passengers. After receiving information, police and administration teams also reached the spot. Officials secured the entire area and movement of people around the helicopter was restricted. Female pilot is a resident of Meerut According to the ADM, the helicopter pilot Anupama Chaudhary is a resident of Meerut. Passengers also stated that during the critical situation, the pilot continuously tried to control the helicopter. Her presence of mind and quick decision averted a major accident. Investigation into incident begins, demand for technical inspection of helicopters Dhanolti Tehsildar Mohammad Shadab said that a detailed investigation into the causes of the incident is underway. Meanwhile, former district panchayat member and Congress leader Akhilesh Uniyal expressed concern over the incident, saying that people working in the field could also have been harmed by this. He has demanded strict technical inspection of all helicopters flying in the Chardham Yatra, so that such incidents can be prevented in the future. ​
