CHHATTISGARH’S ‘5% MODEL’ GOES NATIONAL: State To Lead ‘Catch The Rain’ Theme At Centre’s Water Summit

Chhattisgarh Gets Concluding Presentation Slot At National Water Summit In Presence Of PM Modi

In a moment of double honour, Chhattisgarh has been entrusted with a key national role at the Departmental Summit convened by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, on 1-2 September 2026 at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi.

At this national summit of Water Resources Ministers and Secretaries of all States, Chhattisgarh will deliver the concluding presentation of the national session of Theme 2 — “Catch the Rain” (Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari).

At the Valedictory session, in the gracious presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh will present the summing-up of the nationwide deliberations on the theme.

On the second day of the Summit, the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister — nominated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister — will deliver Chhattisgarh’s 30-minute concluding presentation in the national Theme-2 session, showcasing the State’s water-conservation work culture, innovations and Jan Bhagidari models before the country.

The water conservation campaign that began with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call — “Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls” (2021) — has grown into the world’s largest people-led water conservation movement. Under Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB), 27.6 lakh structures were built against a target of 10 lakh in the first phase; over 1.5 crore structures were reported against a target of 1 crore in the second; and the national target now stands at 2 crore new structures by 31 May 2027.

Chhattisgarh stands among the leading States of this national movement. Over 24.07 lakh water conservation structures have been reported in the State under JSJB 2.0. The State’s “5% Model”, born in Korea district — where farmers voluntarily dedicate 5% of their land layout to recharge structures — has found place in the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s national documentation, and campaigns such as “Mor Gaon Mor Pani” have made village-level water planning a community custom.

Our farmers, women and young people turned the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Catch the Rain call into a people’s movement — it is their voice we carry to the national stage. The road to Viksit Bharat 2047 runs through a water-secure Bharat, and Chhattisgarh walks that road shoulder to shoulder.”_

The Summit will also see State presentations on three other themes — water infrastructure, drinking water source sustainability, and rural drinking water operation & maintenance.
