FROM RAIPUR TO DELHI: Chhattisgarh’s Jal Sanchay Success Story Resounds at National Water Summit

Chhattisgarh has created history in water conservation and has secured the First Position in The Entire Country under Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) 3.0 – “Catch the Rain” campaign.

The state’s Water Resources Department released its consolidated achievements at the National Water Summit organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, Underway at New Delhi.

Chhattisgarh, which has consistently led the national water conservation movement, was entrusted with presenting the national session on Theme 2 – “Catch the Rain” (Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari).

HISTORIC REDUCTION IN STRESSED BLOCKS

In the biggest achievement so far, preliminary estimates of the forthcoming CGWB report indicate that total critical and semi-critical groundwater blocks have come down from 26 to just 19. All 5 critical blocks have been reduced to ZERO – a historic first for the state under JSJB.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF CHHATTISGARH’S SUCCESS:

JSJB 1.0: 4,05,561 water harvesting structures constructed – Ranked 2nd nationally. Balod, Mahasamund and Bilaspur districts, along with Raipur Municipal Corporation, won first-place national awards in their respective categories.

JSJB 2.0: A total of 24,07,456 structures (23,07,768 completed) – Ranked 2nd nationally. Five districts – Surajpur, Mahasamund, Balod, Balodabazar-Bhatapara and Kabirdham – featured among the country’s top 10, more than any other state.

“Catch the Rain” (JSJB 3.0, ongoing): 79,775 structures recorded so far (77,719 completed) – Chhattisgarh currently ranks FIRST in the country.

According to the Water Resources Department, this success is the result of participation of lakhs of farmers and gram panchayats across the state. Chhattisgarh will continue to play a leading role toward the national target of 2 crore new structures by 31 May 2027.

CHHATTISGARH’S ROLE AT NATIONAL SUMMIT

On the second day of the summit, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, along with the Deputy Chief Minister, delivered a comprehensive 30-minute presentation on the state’s work culture, innovation and public participation model in water resources management.

At the evening’s closing session, in the esteemed presence of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister presented a summary of the water mission from across the country, in which Chhattisgarh’s achievements were prominently featured.

Our farmers, women and youth have turned the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call for ‘Catch the Rain’ into a people’s movement – and we are carrying their voice to the national stage.
