A shocking incident of newborn theft has come to light from the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of Shivpuri District Hospital. A woman, posing as an acquaintance of an ASHA worker, fled with a newborn baby girl late Tuesday night. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the hospital. How the incident unfolded According to hospital sources, Roshni Adivasi gave birth to a baby girl on October 28. The accused woman had been interacting with the family for the last two days, earning their trust by introducing herself as a friend of an ASHA worker. On Wednesday around 4 AM, she reportedly asked to feed the newborn and later returned to sit in the ward, pretending to be normal. Taking advantage of the family falling asleep, she picked up the infant and quietly escaped from the hospital premises. When the family woke up and realized the baby was missing, they raised an alarm, leading to chaos in the ward. The hospital administration and police immediately began a search operation. Police launch manhunt; reward announced Upon receiving information about the incident, Superintendent of Police (SP) Aman Singh Rathore rushed to the district hospital and reviewed CCTV footage. He confirmed that the accused woman was clearly visible in the footage and that teams have been deployed to track her down. SP Rathore assured, The woman seen in the CCTV footage will be arrested soon, and the newborn will be safely recovered. To expedite the search, the Shivpuri Police have announced a reward of Rs 30,000 for anyone providing information about the accused woman. Police have also circulated her visuals across social media and community networks, appealing to the public to help identify her. Public appeal by police In an official statement, the police said: This woman has stolen a newborn baby girl from Shivpuri District Hospital. Anyone who recognizes her or has information about her whereabouts is requested to contact the nearest police station. The informant will be rewarded ₹30,000, and their identity will be kept confidential. Investigation ongoing The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the hospital’s security lapses and negligence. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from all hospital gates and nearby areas to trace the woman’s movement and possible escape route. Police teams are also checking bus stands, railway stations, and nearby towns, suspecting that the woman may have fled the city soon after the incident.
