Two separate incidents in West Bengal have triggered political controversy after alleged discoveries of government relief materials, condoms and liquor stockpiles inside premises linked by opposition parties to the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Beds, pillows, and condoms discovered inside In the first incident, unrest broke out in Pandaveswar of Paschim Bardhaman district after residents entered the office of former TMC MLA Narendra Nath Chakraborty and claimed to have found government relief materials stored inside. According to local allegations, items meant for public distribution, including tarpaulins and other relief supplies, had been kept in a warehouse attached to the former legislator’s office instead of being distributed among beneficiaries. Protest erupts outside former MLA office The situation escalated on Friday when hundreds of residents gathered outside the premises and staged protests. Police and central forces were deployed after tensions rose in the area. During the protest, residents reportedly entered the office and found two furnished rooms containing beds, mattresses and pillows. The discovery of multiple condom packets inside a drawer further fueled public anger and sparked widespread discussion in the locality. Police intervene and seal premises Police later intervened, brought the situation under control and sealed the premises. BJP leaders demanded a thorough investigation and legal action if any wrongdoing is established. The allegations have not been independently verified, and no response from Chakraborty was immediately available. Liquor recovered from closed library In a separate incident in Diamond Harbour, cartons of liquor were allegedly recovered from a closed library building at Kapat Hat More under Diamond Harbour Police Station limits. According to reports, women members of the BJP Yuva Morcha opened the lock of the library, which they claimed was under the control of local TMC leaders. They alleged that instead of books, shelves, and reading materials, the building contained rows of liquor cartons stacked inside. Investigation underway into both incidents Police reached the spot after receiving information and seized the liquor. An investigation has been launched to determine who stored the liquor in the premises and whether any laws were violated. The BJP alleged that the library had been used as a liquor warehouse by local TMC leaders. Both incidents have intensified political sparring in the state, with opposition parties accusing former TMC functionaries of misusing public and community spaces. Police investigations are underway in both cases, and officials said further action will depend on the findings of the inquiries.
