Trump thanks Bangladesh for the Boeing deal:Tells PM, ‘These fighter jets will not disappoint you, I will remember it too’

US President Donald Trump has thanked Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for deciding to purchase Boeing aircraft, calling the decision significant for bilateral trade ties. In a letter dated August 31, Trump told Rahman that he appreciated Bangladesh’s decision to buy Boeing aircraft and said, “Boeing will not disappoint you, and neither will I forget it.” Trump also said he looked forward to meeting the Bangladesh prime minister. Bangladesh currently operates 14 Boeing aircraft. In April 2026, the country placed an order for another 14 Boeing planes. US Ambassador Sergio Gor said on August 30 that Trump and Rahman had also discussed a larger deal under which Bangladesh could purchase 25 Boeing aircraft. Bangladesh’s Boeing deal linked to US tariff relief The aircraft purchase comes amid efforts by Bangladesh to strengthen trade ties with the US and reduce its trade deficit. After Washington threatened to impose a 37% tariff on Bangladeshi goods, Dhaka began exploring ways to increase purchases from the US. The Boeing deal subsequently emerged as one of the major components of the two countries’ trade discussions. Bangladesh later finalized a $3.7 billion deal for 14 Boeing aircraft. The order includes eight Boeing 787-10s, two Boeing 787-9s and four Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft. The first aircraft is expected to be delivered in November 2031. The US Export-Import Bank is expected to support the transaction by arranging financing, with the Bangladesh government providing a guarantee for the loan. Boeing deals grow under Trump Bangladesh is not the only country to announce major Boeing purchases during Trump’s second term. Several countries have announced large aircraft deals with the US, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Indonesia, Japan, China and South Korea. Saudi Arabia: Saudi company AviLease placed an order for 20 Boeing aircraft in May 2025, with an option for 10 more. Qatar: Qatar Airways and Boeing announced an agreement covering up to 210 aircraft during Trump’s May 2025 visit to Qatar. Indonesia: Indonesia pledged to buy 50 Boeing aircraft in July 2025 as part of a broader trade agreement. Japan: Japan announced plans to purchase 100 aircraft, including Boeing planes, under its July 2025 trade agreement with the US. China: Trump said in May 2026 that China was preparing to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft, a development later confirmed by Boeing. South Korea: South Korea announced plans to purchase 103 Boeing aircraft in August 2025. The announcement was followed by a reduction in US tariffs on South Korean goods from 25% to 10%. Why Boeing is important to Trump’s trade strategy Boeing plays a major role in Trump’s efforts to increase US exports. The company is America’s leading manufacturer of large commercial passenger aircraft and competes globally with Europe’s Airbus. Large aircraft orders can quickly add billions of dollars to US export figures. They also support jobs across Boeing’s manufacturing plants and supply chain. The White House, for example, valued South Korea’s 103-aircraft Boeing deal at around $36.2 billion and said it could support approximately 135,000 jobs in the US. For Trump, therefore, Boeing deals are not only about aircraft sales. They are also a tool for boosting US exports, reducing the trade deficit, and negotiating better trade terms with other countries. ​
