On the occasion of National Handloom Day, the state-level Weaver’s Conference and Swadeshi Exhibition in the state capital witnessed a major highlight: a ramp walk by surrendered Naxal women.

Women who once lived under the shadow of guns and violence now stepped onto the ramp with confidence, showcasing Chhattisgarh’s traditional Kosa Silk and handloom attire.

This was not just a fashion show of traditional garments. It was also the inspiring story of a changing Bastar — of women who have joined the mainstream and begun a new life.

The surrendered women walked the ramp with complete confidence at the Swadeshi Fashion Show. They displayed stunning outfits made from Chhattisgarh’s traditional weaving and Kosa Silk. The moment they appeared, the auditorium erupted with applause.

Their performance sent out a powerful message: by leaving the path of violence and returning to the mainstream, a dignified and self-reliant new beginning is possible.

Many Women Visit Raipur for the First Time

The special aspect of the event was that almost all the women who walked the ramp had come to Raipur for the first time. For them, the experience was extremely special and memorable. Confidence and enthusiasm were clearly visible on the faces of the women as they walked the ramp in traditional attire.

Chhattisgarh Moves ‘From Local to Global’

At the event held on National Handloom Day, emphasis was also placed on taking Chhattisgarh’s Kosa and traditional handloom products to national and international markets. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also launched Chhattisgarh’s premium handloom brand ‘Koshal Fab’.

As the surrendered women walked the ramp in Kosa Silk, they not only showcased Chhattisgarh’s rich handloom heritage, but also presented a new picture of a changing Bastar — where skill has replaced the gun, and self-reliance has replaced violence.
